Bungendore Wood Works Gallery specialises in exhibiting and promoting Australian made wood art, sculpture, craft and contemporary furniture. This is of a high standard and created by Australia’s foremost designer makers in wood. We take pride in showcasing the skill and art of Australia’s wood workers and the varied richness and beauty of our native timbers.

Leading artists from every state and territory, ranging from ‘Blake and Wynne’ prize-winning artists to regional, ACT and Bungendore artists also exhibit in our gallery.

About the Gallery

The building

Bungendore architect, Maurice Barnes, designed the Gallery to create the perfect environment for exhibiting wood and other artworks.

The Gallery was built in 1994 from Australian materials, including Jarrah posts, beams and staircase; Tasmanian Oak floors, Ebonised Victorian Ash frames, and New South Wales Flooded Gum wall paneling.

David MacLaren

Bungendore Wood Works Gallery founder and artistic director. David Maclaren, is the epitome of the ‘journeyman’.

David began his journey in 1973, when he responded to the classic ‘Help Wanted’ sign in the Impression of Wood Gallery on the corner of  Manhattan’s Lexington Avenue and 27th Street.

History

 We believe in building a cooperative network with woodworkers, and we work to ensure there is a diversity of displays and exhibitions in the Gallery.
