Ian (Bill) McKenzie was born at Gatton in Queensland in 1934 and has been painting full time since 1988 when he and his wife and fellow artist Kathy moved to Tomakin on the beautiful far South Coast of New South Wales.

He studied Graphic and Fine Arts at Randwick and Hornsby TAFE Colleges and is also an Associate Member of the Royal Art Society of NSW where he received tuition in watercolour from Frederic Bates. While concentrating on rural landscapes and buildings in a traditional realist style, his subject matter also includes seascapes, botanical objects, and occasional detours into fantasy and abstraction.

The iconic Australian shearing shed is Ian's favourite subject with over 170 woolsheds recorded to date. Solo exhibitions featuring sheds have been held at Qantas Founders Outback Museum, Longreach (2003), Shear Outback, Hay (2002, 2004, 2006), Studio One, Mt. Gambia (2005) and the Chardonnay Lodge Gallery, Coonawarra (2006). Solo exhibitions on more varied subject matter have been held at the Royal Art Society NSW (1998), Yarralumla ACT (1999) Ian has also been well represented in numerous group exhibitions.

Ian's paintings have won several prizes and awards and his work hangs in Regional Galleries and homes throughout Australia. Many of his paintings go overseas as mementos of Australian heritage.

A popular artist at Bungendore Wood Works Gallery, this is Ian's second solo exhibition in the Octagon ArtSpace. The exhibition opens on Saturday 24th January at 2pm where you can also meet the artist.The exhibition continues until February 22.
